Dissertation Information
Extraction of Salient Features from Sensory-Motor Sequences for Mobile Robot Navigation

Concepts
Mobile robot navigation

Robot navigation means its ability to determine its own position in its frame of reference and then to plan a path towards some goal location. In order to navigate in its environment, the robot or any another mobility device requires representation i.e. a map of the environment and the ability to interpret that representation.

Motor coordination

Motor coordination is among the most fundamental aspects of everyday life, seen in reaching for the morning cup of coffee to hitting the buttons on a clock to set your morning alarm. These tasks seem rudimentary in nature, however they are deceptively complex, as they arise from a complex coordination between muscles, limbs and complicated neural circuitry.

Computer vision

Computer vision is the science and technology of machines that see. As a scientific discipline, computer vision is concerned with the theory for building artificial systems that obtain information from images. The image data can take many forms, such as a video sequence, views from multiple cameras, or multi-dimensional data from a medical scanner.
